Fiber names are only a starting point: seams, elastic, prints and labels may respond differently to washing and drying. Agree on a proposed care procedure for each finished style, review the supporting evidence, and approve the label artwork before bulk production.
Cotton and Cotton-Blend Underwear
Do not choose the final wash temperature or drying instruction from cotton percentage alone. Ask for the proposed care procedure and evidence for the finished style. On an approved sample, record dimensions at agreed points before and after that procedure, along with the wash and drying settings and number of cycles. Compare the results with the order's agreed dimensional tolerances.
Modal, Viscose, and Bamboo-Based Blends
Review the finished garment's surface appearance, hand feel and seams after the proposed care procedure. Keep a clearly identified unwashed sample for comparison. If a gentle cycle or laundry bag is proposed, record that condition in the evaluation rather than assuming it suits every blend. Confirm that the instruction is supported for the actual fabric, trims and construction.
Nylon, Polyester, and Elastane Constructions
Include the waistband, leg openings, prints and labels when reviewing a stretch garment after washing and drying. Record visible distortion, fit change or damage against the approved sample. Do not choose bleach warnings or drying instructions from the fiber name alone; ask for evidence for the complete style before approving the care label.
Approve the Care Label for the Destination Market
For U.S. retail, the FTC Care Labeling Rule guide says care instructions and warnings need a reasonable basis. The supporting evidence must address the finished garment, not only separate fabric components. Record the proposed wash and drying procedure, cycle count, dimensions, appearance and agreed acceptance criteria. Confirm other destination-market and retailer requirements with the responsible importer or buyer.
Buyer Approval Checklist
Identify the style, material and construction revision, approved sample, destination market and party responsible for approving the label.
Evaluate the finished sample under its proposed care procedure; record settings, cycles, measurements, photos and agreed pass/fail criteria.
Compare the washed garment with the identified unwashed sample, including color transfer, seams, elastic, prints and label legibility.
Approve the final wording and artwork for each style. Recheck the evidence if fabric, trims, print or construction changes on a repeat order.
