Modal vs Cotton for Men’s Underwear OEM

Brands usually choose cotton or modal because of hand feel and how the range is positioned, not because one cloth wins a test this page does not have. YXLP can sample either request. A catalog title that says modal or cotton is not the composition of your order, and it is not a certificate.

When brands choose one or the other

Cotton is the usual starting point for an everyday range or a value multipack: a familiar, matte cloth. Modal is the usual starting point when the brand wants a softer, smoother hand feel on a soft-touch line. Neither description is a promise about a cloth that has not been sampled. Yarn, knit, finish and elastane change the result, so two fabrics with the same name can feel different.

Choose the position first, then name the cloth you want sampled. If the range mixes both, say which styles are cotton and which are the modal request. Do not put both words in one product title and hope the quotation sorts them out.

What a catalog title does not prove

The short-leg boxer brief whose historical name says modal is a style reference. Modal remains a catalog word until the factory names the cloth it would propose. A softer photograph is not evidence of modal. Hand feel is judged on a swatch or a sample of the proposed fabric.

The same limit applies to cotton. Cotton in an old title is a request, not the fiber content of the photographed body. Care-label text should match the fabric selected for the order, after that composition is confirmed.

OEM, private label, and the cloth

OEM is the garment: the cut, the measurements and the cloth. Private label is the brand on that garment: waistband, labels and pack. You can ask for a modal hand feel or a cotton body on either route. The fiber sentence on the pack is still written only after the sampled cloth is confirmed. A body sample does not approve a care label that was not agreed.

  • Send the cotton brief when the request is cotton, including elastane, and keep an organic claim on its own line.
  • Send the modal brief when the request is a modal-like hand feel, and ask which fiber can be sampled.
  • Use the OEM hub when the pattern is new. Use the private-label hub when the change is the brand, the band or the pack.

What to send before a sample

  1. Name cotton or a modal hand feel, and say which fibers you will not accept.
  2. Attach a swatch or a reference garment. Do not rely on the word in a catalog title.
  3. State the cut, the measurements and the destination on separate lines.
  4. Ask which cloth will be sampled, and approve the fiber sentence only after that answer.

Price, the way a minimum is counted, and timing are quoted against that confirmed cloth. This page does not publish them.

Claims to leave off the pack

Do not print a cooling, antibacterial or moisture-management line from this page. The comparison above does not support those sentences. Do not print organic, bamboo or a cotton ratio from a title or a URL. Destination label rules are a separate approval. The US and EU guide is the starting checklist, and your importer confirms the wording for the market where you sell.

Common questions

Can YXLP sample men’s underwear in modal?

Send the hand feel you want and ask which fiber composition can be sampled. A product URL that contains the word modal is not a composition, and this page is not a fiber certificate.

Is modal always softer than cotton?

Buyers often ask for modal when they want a softer, smoother hand. Two cloths with the same name can still differ. Judge the proposed fabric on a swatch or a washed sample, not on a photograph.

Does this page set a price or a minimum?

No. Both are quoted after the cloth, the cut, the sizes and any waistband or pack are confirmed.

Ready to brief a style?

Send a reference garment or sketch, the quantities you are considering and your destination. The quotation will state what is included and how minimums are counted.
